Hej ! My name is Florence, and I am a student born and raised in Southern France.

 

I started thinking about doing a gap year several months ago, during my exchange  in Sweden. Planning it was not all easy, indeed it was going to be the first year of my life (or let's say, the first year since my 3rd birthday) in which I had nothing such as timetables, essay deadlines or finals as references to organize myself. 

However, I have been thinking about volunteering abroad for ages and the year after my Bachelor degree just felt like the perfect moment for it.

So I began looking for opportunities of placements and found a perfect one - which I funded myself - in a school for disavantaged children located in a rural area of Nepal. I also had the chance to be accepted by an NGO promoting Human Rights in Armenia to work with them in the frame of the European Voluntary Service. 

 

I mainly created this blog to write about my experiences abroad as a young French girl travelling by herself but also to share some piece of advice on the different ways to get to volunteer abroad when you're a 21yo-generation Y-broke-individual, (which I obvously am !) to the ones that also want to dedicate some time to a cause they find meaningful.

 

Also, as I think towns arround the world are some kind of free-open-air museums, this blog will as well be a catalogue of the most colorful and interesting street art pieces I can find (and God knows there are lots). All the ones that had the occasion to travel with me know well about my please-stop-here-and-let-me-check-that-graffiti moments (sorry for the numerous times you had rolled your eyes because of this in Norway, Edouard, but this something I can't help).

Je m'appelle Florence, j'ai 21 ans et je suis une étudiante (enfin, cette année non) originaire de Toulouse.

 

J'ai commencé à envisager l'année sabbatique pendant mon année d'échange Erasmus en Suède. L'organisation n'a pas été des plus faciles, vu que c'est littéralement la première année de ma vie (enfin disons la première année depuis mes 3 ans) ou mon existence n'est pas rythmée par des emplois du temps, des dates limites de devoirs à rendre ou des partiels. 

Cependant, l'idée d'être volontaire à l'étranger m'obsède depuis longtemps et l'année qui suivait ma Licence m'a paru être le moment parfait pour me lancer et partir !

Alors après de très (très) nombreuses soirées passées à faire des recherches, j'ai finalement trouvé une opportunité de volontariat dans une école rurale pour enfants défavorisés au Népal. J'ai aussi au la chance d'avoir été acceptée par une ONG dans le domaine des Droits de l'Homme, pour travailler avec eux en Arménie dans le cadre du Service Volontaire Européen.

 

J'ai créé ce blog non seulement pour parler de mes expériences à l'étranger en tant que Française de 20 ans qui voyage toute seule, mais aussi pour partager quelques conseils utiles sur le volontariat pour ceux qui ont envie de donner de leur temps à une cause qui leur tient à coeur :). 

 

Aussi, étant donné que j'ai tendance à voir les villes comme des sortes de musées-gratuits-à-ciel-ouvert, ce blog servira aussi de catalogue des plus belles manifestations de street art que je peux trouver (et Dieu sait qu'il y en a). D'aillleurs tout ceux qui ont eu l'occasion de visiter une ville avec moi savent bien qu'ils ne pourront pas échapper à mes arrête-toi-là-y'a-des-graffitis que j'exprime environ toutes les trois rues (du coup excuse moi Edouard pour le nombre de fois ou je l'ai fait en Norvège, mais tu sais bien que je ne peux pas faire autrement.)
